Super aesthetic! — well defined Magnetite as black dodecahedral crystals to about 1 cm+, with sharp pyrite pseudo octahedra; from the famous Brosso Mines, Ivrea, Italy. Collected before 1981. The first photo shows the whole specimen which is more or less "L"-shaped. The last picture shows the bottom of the specimen which normally serves as a built-in foot.

Meliphanite


Mineral # 084 Available
Meliphanite from Stokkø Island, Stoksund, Langesundsfjord, Norway; collected 1880 by Anders Andersen. The label shown is included. Type co-locality. This rare honey-yellow meliphanite is on a syenite matrix with a variety of accessory minerals.
Under long-wave UV, the yellow meliphanite fluoresces an attractive, quite intense, deep purplish-pink. There are also blebs of other minerals fluorescing deep orange and others showing a pale yellowish-white fluorescence. Nothing fluoresces under short-wave UV.
This display specimen measures about 11.4 cm x 9.6 cm x 3 cm. The largest cleavage measures about 5 cm x 3 cm. About 50% of the specimen is meliphanite.

Interesting; attractive, colorless to honey-colored fan- or sheaf-like crystal aggregates of mimetite up to about 5 mm; from the Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia. This is an older specimen, obtained from Prosper Williams, October, 1978.
